"Fishing Without Nets" is a gripping and evocative film that delves into the harrowing world of Somali pirates with profound authenticity. Directed by Cutter Hodierne, the movie offers a raw and unflinching portrayal of the lives and struggles of these desperate men who turn to piracy in pursuit of survival and livelihood.

This pivotal role marked my first venture into the realm of creative work, kickstarting a career shift that would shape my professional journey. As the Cultural Consultant on set, I had the privilege of lending my expertise and insights to ensure an authentic representation of the cultural nuances and dynamics depicted in the film.

The film, which I had the honor of being part of, achieved remarkable recognition by winning the prestigious US Direction Award at Sundance 2014. This journey propelled me to lend my expertise to several other notable productions, including the 2017 film "Pirates of Somalia," the post-production process for "Captain Phillips" (2013), and Nat Geo's gripping series "Chain of Command" (2018).
